There are two types of Zouk. The Caribbean version of Zouk follows the history of French-Caribbean “Zouk” music, which became very popular in the ‘80s. There is also a Brazilian Zouk that emerged from the Lambada. It is much flashier than the Caribbean version and involves larger steps. Regardless of the style, this dance continues to evolve as dancers put their own stamp on it all over the world.
When to Dance the Zouk
Known for its wave-like upper body movements, the Brazilian Zouk is perfect for slower tempos. It also requires a very strong connection with your partner, but it can be interpreted to match your personal style. It is ideal for nightclubs and dance floors where you want to make a sexy statement.
